Old ladys should not party all night long........

I say that because, of course, on Thursday we continued partying here over at the Chaos household long after the names were picked.  You know......Hot celebrity club hopping.....crazy after hours night clubs......buying rounds of drinks for everyone......rolling back home proclaiming everyone was my best friend and we need to do this next week..... So much fun......

Then, I woke up from the dream remembering that I haven't gone to a nightclub and gotten tipsy since 1989 when Duran Duran made their comeback.......the reality was, we didn't go anywhere except the living room to watch the DVR'd episode of Wizard of Oz (more comments on the fact that when I was a kid you never got to record The Wizard of Oz......It only came on once a year! ....in a bit)

So, why, oh, why, was there a shooting pain radiating down from my neck all the way to my arm?  If it didn't happen from dirty dancing on the dance floor with Jared Leto, then what happened from the time I finished watching Wizard of Oz and then crawled into my bed?   I looked over at my sleeping husband.  I looked over at the clock that said 3:30 am. I looked back over at my husband. I thought to myself, "he can't help you if you wake him up."  To which I thought, "but I need to share this pain with someone." Back and forth I went until I decided to let a sleeping husband lie and just gulp down 2 Aleeve hoping for the best.  I then passed my time by making bargains for the pain to go away......"please if the pain goes way I promise I'll take better care of myself and not pick up that 35 pound sack of potatos disguise as Andres anymore......Pleeease if the pain goes away I promise to open that Yoga tape I bought 3 years ago in order to do at 6:00 am every morning and actually do yoga........Please, if the pain goes away, I promise I won't make fun of the crazy women of Real Housewives of Orange County or the employees at "Michelles" anymore....( I actually crossed my fingers on that one because I know perfectly well when I really can't keep a promise)

Three hours later and no relief in sight, Cosme started to stir. Which of course was my signal to pounce on him with all my tales of exruciating pain woes...... So, he got Carlos off to school and I made a Dr's appointment.  And, approximately 5 hours later, we were walking out of the Dr's office with two prescriptions and a pinched nerve in my left shoulder and arm......Ugg.

So, Friday was spent on a couch under the influence of muscle relaxants and Prednisone while I proceeded to watch tv for the rest of the day. I was in a bit of junk food tv heaven.  All my recorded episodes of Judge Judy, Real Housewives, Lock Down San Quentin, The Soup and Project Runway were waiting at my remote control fingertips.  As per usual, I was not disappointed.  I even got to see things I didn't record like the smackdown between the "Pagent Moms Unleashed" of OC and Los Angeles.  You think the Crips and Bloods are nasty....you haven't seen anything until you see these moms at judging time (of course I have sooo much to say about the pathology of sending your 6 year-old daughter down a catwalk with fake teeth, fake hair, airbrushed tan and a bikini bathing suit. Not to mention I thought Child Labor Laws were passed back in 1930...... But that will have to wait until another post)......

Oh, about the whole Wizard of Oz thing.  This was the first time Carlos ever saw the Wizard of Oz.  I was so excited for him and so excited to watch it with him as I haven't seen it for years.  So before it started, I explained to him this was one of mommy's favorite movies from when she was a little girl in what he refers to as "the old fashion days."  Not to be confused with the "old, old fashion days" which was before tv's were invented. As well as, the "old, old, old fashion days" when there were dinosaurs. As you can see, his historical timeline is very short. Although ,there was a time when he did question my existence within the "Oldx3 days" at on point as you can read here.

Anyway, I fondly recalled for him how when I was a little girl, The Wizard of Oz came on every year.  Only once. And we looked forward to it for weeks.  We were so excited the night it came on because this was it.....no do overs.  No putting it on pause while you run to the bathroom. No getting to watch it at whatever time it was convenient for you.  No rewinding the part were the Cowardly Lion jumps from the tree and roars at the Tin Man.  NOooo.....mommy only got to watch it when it came on. Once a year.  And that was it.  AND, she had to walk ten miles in the snow uphill both ways to see it.....you spoiled little children, you!!!  Hrrmmppp.

At this point, he looks at me bewildered with the facts of my childhood only containing 5 channels, no remote control and cartoons only on Saturday mornings.   Frankly, I think he really does believe I lived with the dinosaurs.  But, its funny when I think back on it.  Because as children, we were forced to exert some amount of patience for things.  We were forced to wait for Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer all year long and then watch once....only once....during the holiday season.  And, I truly believe that's what makes it so special for me today when I watch it.   Even as I hold my DVR remote control in my hands and wonder how I ever lived without it all these years, I still think we had it just a bit better as kids in the "old fashion days."

Talk to you soon!  Karin

So sorry about the pinched nerve. Ouchie! You still manage to make an owie post funny :)
No kidding about the DVR thing. My kids ask me to rewind & pause from all the tv's or when we go to Grandma & Grandpa's. Honestly there was life before Noggin & Sprout network, probably not much according to our kids!
Feel better!
Nerissa

So sorry about the pinched nerve. What did we do in the old days without modern miracles?

Ouch, but nice to park and watch TV all day. Bliss! I have given you an award, check out my blog to see:)

Ouch! Sorry to hear about the nerve, does not sound like fun. You are so right about our childhood. It was so special to see it once a year, I always looked forward to it. Hope you are up and better soon.

Hi Karin,
I am so sorry about your pinched nerves (DOUBLE!!!) Does an Osteopath help? Their manipulation techniques are great!
I agree with you 10000000000% Patience was needed and developed in our childhoods. Bordum was found to be a natural thing that can happen from time to time and you figure out what to do on your own..or else our Mom's could easily find something for us to do!!hehhe
As YOU and my sister Kelly waited PATIENTLY for the OZ to come to T.V. I PRAYED that NO ONE would see the commercial and we would MISS IT!!! YIPPEE but it never happened that way. ooo that witch...and those monkeys...I have to go now and hide my head under a pillow!
I hope that you are off the Predisone by weeks end and back to the 'BEST MOMMY" spot again...not that you ever left it!.
HUGS,
Mary

I hope you are feeling better today! If not, then eat LOTS of ice cream. I promise it works!! *snickers*

I remember watching the Wizard of Oz when little. Knowing full well that the flying monkeys were going to scare me soooo bad!!

Did you watch The Tin Man last night?

OH you poor thing! I hope you're feeling a bit better now?? And oh my gosh...Emily calls it "the old fashion days," too! Isn't that funny? If only we could get into their little heads and find out exactly what that "time line" looks like...we'd be hysterical, I think!

I remember the Wizard of Oz Annual Family Viewing as well! Oh yes, it was definitely quite the treat. So - you didn't way if Carlos liked it?
Karla

Ouch, those pinched nerves really hurt too, had one in my back once. I hope you are feeling much better by now, but it does take a while to find relief. Did you know that stress can cause this too? You are probably trying to do too much around this time of year like the rest of us, just remember to take a little quiet time for yourself :)

Ohhhh and I won something of yours, yippeeeeee. At Vintage Indie's Swanky Swag :)

You poor girl - enjoy the rest and I hope you feel better soon.
Have to agree with you about the changes in this world.....our children could learn alot from us if they weren't in so much of a hurry. Nothing is 'special' anymore!!!!
Take care - hugs,
Kerryanne

I hope your pinched nerve pain goes away quickly. I've dealt with sciatica off and on over the decades and - OUCH.
I had to laugh at you trying to explain the Yearly Watching of The Wizard of Oz to your kids. There was also the Yearly Watching of The Sound of Music. Etc. Somehow our youngest child managed to get to age 8 or 9 or so before he ever saw Wizard of Oz. Before it came on I was reminiscing about how frightening the flying monkeys had been when I was a kid. After the second or third scene with the monkeys in it my son turned to me and said "You were frightened of the monkeys? Seriously!?" Sigh. I guess special effects have changed as well.

Hi Karin,
Hope you are feeling better now! Not much fun...although sitting around watching favourite tv shows does sound a bit appealing!!
I also LOVE the Wizard of Oz and we have it on dvd for the kids. But somehow I don't think they appreciate it quite as much as we did. Too much choice for them these days I think!
Kathy :)

Karin, I hope your feeling better...I had that happen before and I have to also say that stress is a huge part of it also.....why dont you take a break and really enjoy the holidays....I love you!!!1 Kris

So sorry about your pinched nerve! Hope it's unpinched itself by now and you feel better!

Yes, I think things do have more meaning and are more special when they are rarer. More isn't necessarily better or more meaningful - sometimes it's just ....more stuff.

you poor thing!! I hope you are doing better! It is no fun being in pain! xo Britt

Hi Karin, oh no you poor thing and how brave, I would have shared my agony much sooner than that!!! Now tell me, when your children finally got to watch Wizard of Oz (without the flying guinea pigs in my own personal version) and after you had told them how wonderful it is ( like I did with mine)..did they I mean he..get very scared at those horrible flying monkeys??? My children looked at me as though I had betrayed them and tricked them into watching something terrible!!! To be honest I had blanked that bit out of my memory, oh well....I still love it, but I like The Sound Of Music more ( and that was a once a year special as well)..but then I suppose it has those awful soldiers.....and the family is scared....blanked that bit out too!!lol Hope you are feeling better, take care of you, Kiss noises Linda Lilly Cottage.

OK, so maybe I should have read everyone elses comments first, yep it wasn't only me who didn't like the monkeys....and who loves The Sound of Music....I love these girls who blog, I think we were all made from the same mold. Only thing by the time I got to be molded, it had been stretched out of shape and was slightly rounder than the first few that were made! hahahah KN Linda

Oh my, I've had the same conversation with my kids! They just can't imagine a world without a rewind/fast forward button!

Hope the pinched nerve gets better soon.

What?! What!? Old ladies shouldn't party all night long? Heh heh heh!! I am so not telling my friends you said that! Heh heh

Missing you!!!!!! I don't know about you, but I am NOT ready for Christmas OR New Years at all! Gosh dangit, I'm still on Halloween here!

OH NOOooo! I hope you are better! That is an awful feeling..I know! However, you STILL have a sense of humor and I am giggling over your post! ..THe Wizard of Oz..yes, I remember how exciting it wsa to wait for that special night! ... Uh.. and i have to agree with you on the Housewives of the OC...and to think they are for REAL! Aiiieeeee! I can't stand the youngish dark haired one who is now trying to be a recording artist! (Oh yeah..Jo) Excuse me while I barf...ha ha heee!

Hi I'm new here - navigating my way around...but just HAD to tell you, yes! This was THE most exciting time of the year when I was a kid (that and when the carnies pulled into town and set up a carnival right across the street for a week!) It's STILL my all time favorite movie!
