The Flu Kicked my Ass.........

And how I survived to tell about it....  OMG....Last time I left you all, I was complaining of a few sniffles and coughs, making fun of those crazy kids we call weather people over here and showing off chicken soup garnishes.   Honestly, it was as if I was hit by a truck.

Here....Let me illustrate....

One minute....

The next....

You think I exaggerate...but I don't.  It all started as a normal Tuesday morning. While my mom was watching Andres, and Carlos was at school, I was filling out an application for the San Diego School district so that I could start subbing.  All of a sudden, somewhere between "where can we reach you in an emergency and what special skills do you have," an Arctic wind measuring 21 degrees below 0 blew through San Diego and right into my office.  All of a sudden I was freezing and shivering and hit with a wave of exhaustion that I haven't felt since both my kids were infants and prone to midnight feeds.  I stumbled over to the couch where I lay down my 30 pound head and hope that the three blankets I just threw on top of me can warm me up.  I then realized that I still had to pick up Carlos in about 45 minutes so I stumbled back over to the phone, called my best friend and secured his ride home.   I lay back on the couch awaiting his arrival and wondering if it was snowing outside because it was so cold in the house.   He finally arrived home and stormed through the door armed with graphs, charts and depositions as to why he should be able to play on the computer today even though he got a warning at school.  Despite his being welcomed at the door by a mom wrapped in a multitude of blankets and mumbling incoherently, he was completely oblivious to my deteriorating plight. The conversation went like this:

Carlos:  Mommy.  I got one warning but it wasn't my fault. But I still got four stars but......

Me:  Carlos. Go on the computer or watch cartoons.....

Carlos:  But Mommy...it wasn't my fault it was Juniper she wouldn't let me open my book and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.....

Me: I don't care. Go on the computer or go watch tv.....

Carlos: But let me show you what happened she took my book blah blah blah......

Me: (thinking little does he know he could be telling me he was expelled and I wouldn't care) GO PLAY ON THE COMPUTER......I'm going to lay down.....

Carlos: (Incredulous that life could take such a quick turn on easy street for him) says "OK"

I then go lay down in bed and don't get up for approximately another 30 hours.....

So there you have it.   This is where I've been since last Tuesday at exactly 1:10 pm.  I know a lot of you have been hit by this....but geez oh man....the way it just hits you is something else. Has that happened to anyone else?

I finally crawled out of bed to the couch on Thursday and spent the whole day there, as well as Friday, watching tv.  Finally a started feeling human on Saturday.

I now have to catch up on reality and life as it was left last Tuesday......I'll catch up with everyone later! Karin

Karin hope you are feeling better! I do love the cartoons though, and even when you are telling a story about being sick you are still hilarious! have you ever thought about writing a book? seriously!

Hi Karin! Glad you are feeling better. I haven't gotten it (fingers crossed) and I didn't have a flu shot. I think I should stay inside till August. :)

That is exactly how it hit me....the only bright side to it was school was out due to snow so my 9 year old became the official "MAN" of the house and cared for my 3 yr old and my 99 yr old grandmother! He was a true trooper thru it all and I was in bed for about the same amount of time...then had to deal with being weak for another couple of days! I was so dizzy when it hit that I ran into doorways!

Oh my gosh! Sounds like you are finally on the mend, but still do take it easy!! Glad you are back to blogging!

Glad you're feeling better. I've been needing some "chaos humor".

uuuuhh! I had that same thing for the entire month of December! It sucked! The holidays were a blur!
feel better! xo natalea

Well good God woman! Glad you lived to tell!!

That's the flu--it hits like a Mack truck. My entire family had it a year or so ago--10 days of misery.
Hope you continue to feel better.

Oh you poor thing!!!! Yes, it is terrible and seems to do different things to different people! We ended up with terrible coughs that lasted for several weeks:D Hope you are better and back to feeling like a human being:D Has anyone ever told you that you are funny even when you are deathly ill:D You always make me laugh.

Whoa! I am so sorry to hear you got bit by that bug!!! My husband had it 2 weeks ago and pretty much did all of what you did except for deal with kids!!! I cannot remember when he felt so awful...he is still battling a cough but is actually a human again. Give yourself lots of credit for getting through it AND STILL BEING THE MOM THAT YOU ARE! Feel better :)

Good grief...so glad you're feeling better babe...take it easy and rest up. {{{HUGS}}}

You poor thing...I wondered about you and no posts for awhile. Nothing worse than being so ill you can't get out of bed. Take it slow!
Leave it to you to inject some humor in your misery!
I had thought perhaps the STORM OF THE CENTURY had wreaked havoc. We get those same news people up here: 2008 STORM WATCH. You'd think we were in for a blizzard.
Keep getting better!
XOXO

I hope you are feeling better! Good luck with your substitute teaching! It has been an interesting year so far. There really is never a dull moment at school.

A day late, a buck short-I'm so glad you're feeling better! I love your blog so much! Simultaneous laughter and jaw dropping inspiration all in one place! You rock! Aren't those new Housewives too much? I really wanted to thank you for the sweet comments on my blog! I really appreciate the support! xo-Mel
