When I was at Paper Tales last week I was going through all the new magazines that had just arrived. I was perusing through the Somerset Holiday's one when I stumbled across this little number........
I had forgotten that I sent a bunch of stuff in way back when. This was the one thing that made the cut. My name was spelled wrong but I've already processed it and moved on. If you get a chance you should check it out. There is a ton of cute stuff in the issue. And I'm not just sayin' that because my Boo Banner is in there. Well, I'm sort of saying that....but really, there are some wonderful projects by some really great artist. I took some pictures of my favorites to show you. But first, in celebration of the Boo Banner, I've got a tutorial to make your own. This one is a bit different but still fun to make......
- Variety of black & white pattern paper
- Orange patterned paper
- Black seambing
- Polka dot ribbon
- Orange velvet ribbon
- Glitter - black and silver (I've used Martha Stewart Obsidian Black and Antique Silver; however, you can use any black and silver you choose.)
- Crystals
- Glue pen (the one I love to use is the Quickie Glue pinpoint roller pictured below)
- Adhesive
- Two differnt sized circle punches (I used a 2" and a 3" punch)
- Glue gun
1. Punch out your black and white paper with the 3" punch. I also punched out some paper for the back of the banner. Next, punch the smaller circle using the orange decorative paper. I used some stamps to stamp out "BOO." These are an old Making Memories set. You can use what ever you have on hand.
Here are the punches I used for this project in case you get so excited and have to do a couple more banners......
2. Next, we are going to glitter the edges. I love glitter. I put my silver glitter in a container so that I can just dip the scalloped edges in after applying the glue. Here's a picture of the pen I love to use for fine edge gluing.....
3. Take the pen and start edging the scallops. You can do about 1/4 to 1/2 the circle at a time. If you don't have the glue pen just use a small brush dipped in glue......
4. Dip the circle in the glitter......
5. Complete the rest of the BOO and the black and white circles. You don't need to glitter the vintage sheet music because it's going on the back.
6. Next we are going to color in the letters with the black glitter. Here's the Martha Stewart glitter I used.......
7. First trace around the letter with the glue pen and then apply the glitter......
8. Let dry for a few minutes and brush any excess glitter off the circles.....
9. Apply glue to the center of the letter and then glitter......
10. After you let the letter dry for a few minutes, using your adhesive, glue the BOO circles on the black and white circles as shown. You can use a glue gun or pop dots to give added dimension.......
11. Next, pull out the orange velvet ribbon and black seambinding......
12. Position your circles so the there is enough ribbon on top to form a loop for hanging. Using a gluegun, glue the circles to the ribbon.
Glue the black seambinding to the orange ribbon......
Position the vintage sheet music to the back of the circle and glue into place....
Form bows with your ribbon and glue to the top of each circle. Glue crystals into place.......
Form a loop on top and glue......
After trimming the bottom ribbons you are ready to hang your "Boo" Banner....
You're done! Now you can hang your Boo banner and get to the important stuff.......like eating the Halloween candy!
If you have any questions, feel free to email me or leave a comment.

Congrats on publication Karin - I have the mag and never noticed it was your project! It's super cute. And thanks for the tutorial for this other boo banner. Love it!

Congrats on being published. I saw it in the bookstore and thought it was cute and looked similar to you work. However, I didn't read the byline. Looking forward to seeing more of you fab designs in print.
